Cocteau Twins Don't Do Cherubs!

Here's how I remember it



The Cocteau Twins played at the Orpheum Theater in about 1991 and my
girlfriend and I got backstage after the show. My girlfriend had clued
me into Robin Guthrie's sarcastic and gruff nature and said that she
thought he and I would get along well.

There were about 20 other people
milling about but Robin was ignoring all of them, just sitting on a
couch.

I went up to him and said "I got you figured out, I know who you
really are!"

"What the fuck are you talking about?!?" he snapped back.

I said "You're from Glasgow, you're a fat bastard. play guitar and have
a scruffy beard. Admit it, you're actually Big John Duncan from The
Exploited!"

"OH FUCK RIGHT OFF MATE!" he shouted back at me, and
then laughed and told me I was alright. He then said I should go ask Liz
about her Exploited tattoo. I asked him if she really did have one and
he said she didn't, but she DID have a home made "Sid Vicious" tattoo.

I got up from the couch and went over to where Liz was holding court
and interrupted, saying Robin told me to tell her to show me her tattoo.
Liz looked all sheepish, and my girlfriend looked like I had just
killed her puppy. Liz took me aside and rolled up her sleeve to show me
her upper shoulder, and sure enough was a bad jailhouse tattoo of a
safety pin and "Sid Vicious". Liz then assured me that I'll never find a
photo of her without that covered up.

I went back to sit on the
couch with Robin and we started talking about Sesame Street. Some very
young, very nervous goth boy came up with a pair of golden angel
statues, thrust them out to Robin and asked him to autograph one of
them.

Robin looked at the kid, looked back at me and winked, looked back at the kid and said "FUCK OFF! I don't sign cherubs!!!"

The kid also looked like his puppy had just been killed in front of
him, while Robin and I went back to talking about Sesame Street.

The half-a-time I saw The Damned Here’s how I remember it. The Damned were scheduled to play a drunk show at First Ave in 1986. The drinking age at that time was 19. I was 18. And pissed off that I couldn’t go to the show. There's some Talk Talk of a band called The Psychedelic Furs

Here's how I remember it:                                                                 Psychedelic Furs on Spanish TV 1984 Summer of 1982, my 14th year. Mike Wassenaar and Mike McClellan started a Friday night show on KBEM called Ready Steady Go. That show turned me on to a lot of bands that became lifelong favorites. I remember hearing the Psychedelic Furs being played, but there were so many other cool songs being played I think I put them on the back burner.   A few months later, after I started as a freshman at North High (coincidentally the same place they broadcast RSG from), one of my new friends KT said "there's a band we like that's gonna be on King Biscuit tomorrow but I can't remember who it is. But I know we both like them so you need to listen." I took her up and was happy to find out it was The Psychedelic Furs. I remember listening to it while soaking in the bathtub.  Siousxise And The Banshees Orpheum Theater Minneapolis May 25 1986 Here's how I remember it: My then-girlfriend, Ms. Emma Rotgut, and I were stoked when we heard the news that one of the original punk bands was going to grace our fair burg with their presence.  Siouxsie and the Banshees, the band that got together for the sole purpose of disbanding after a single show in 1976, were still kicking eight years later and we were going to see them.  They were to play at the Orpheum Theater, so we had to actually purchase tickets, unlike the scads of free comps. First Ave. was known for handing out like cups of water at an all-ages show.  I have no recollection of getting the tickets. I don't think either one of us skipped school to buy them. Maybe Ma Rotgut, who worked in the same building as the ticket seller got them for us... I really can't recall at all.
